Ronald Poynter, 66, of Somerset, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on June 28, 1953; son of the late Dewey and Jessie Thurman Poynter. He was an employee of Tecumseh for 27 years.
He is survived by his wfie, Peggy Poynter, whom he married on March 20, 1993 in Science Hill; one son, Christopher & (Lynn) Poynter of Nancy; one daughter, Melissa Wiggington & (Chrystal Wright) of Somerset; and a step-son, Kevin & (Kristie) Hall of Somerset. He is also survived by one sister, Joyce & (Paul) Smith of Science Hill; one brother, Tim & (Mildred) Poynter of Eubank; a brother-in-law, Jack Henderson of Nancy; and a sister-in-law, Betty & (Lynn) Shadoan of Nancy.
He leaves behind the following grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Eric & (Paige) Poynter of Eubank, Thomas and Emily Poynter of Nancy; Tori Wiggington, Kayla Hall, Kamryn Hall of Somerset, Michelle & (Thomas) King of Redkey, IN., and also two great-grandchilren, Blakely Poynter of Eubank, and Isaiah King of Redkey, IN.
He also leaves to mourn his passing several nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives as well as a special and dear friend, Jack Anderson of Lebanon, IN. He and Jack talked to each other on the phone regularly and it was one of the highlights of his day when they talked.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kelli Jo Richardson; a granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Poynter; and a brother, Tom Poynter.
Ronald enjoyed woodworking, especially making wooden toys that he designed himself and gave to the children, and grandchildren. Their joy at receiving them was the only thanks he ever needed. He was a kind and generous person that will be missed and remembered forever by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ponder officiating.
Burial will be in Norris Cemetery in Nancy.
Visitation will be after 9:00 AM Tuesday, until time for service.
