Sammie Dykes, 75, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at his residence.
He was born January 29, 1946 in Dykes, Kentucky; son of the late Commodore & Juanita (Adams) Dykes. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Sammie Dykes was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Burdine) Dykes; two sons, Sammie Allan & (Kim Rose) Dykes and Stephen Aaron & (Lisa) Dykes, both of Somerset; five brothers, Ray & (Brenda) Dykes of London, James "Burr" & (Vicky) Dykes of Mt. Vernon, Roger & (Linda) Dykes of Mt. Vernon, Jay & (Winona) Dykes of Mt. Vernon, and Bennie Dykes of Somerset; six sisters, Trudell & (Bobby) Burdine of Somerset, Patricia & (Roger) Bullock of Mt. Vernon, Sue & (James) Lawson of Somerset, Kay & (Jerry) Bullock of Livingston, Kentucky, Dean & (Tom) Chaney of Somerset, Susie White of London; and two grandchildren, Samuel Jackson Dykes of Somerset and Emma Grace Dykes of Somerset.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; two sisters, Daisy L. Arthur and Wilma Dykes; and a grandchild, Hope Ridner Dykes.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2022 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Dewayne Arthur officiating.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 38.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Goodwater Cemetery Fund.
