Wilma Louise Childers (Parks), 85, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 after a long illness.
She was born August 10, 1939 in the Eastern Kentucky community of Sassafras to the late Olive (Cornett) and Ray Parks. She was the oldest of three children (brother, Ed, and sister, Marcia). Her family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan when she was a child, where she lived until she returned to Kentucky to attend Campbellsville College. It was there she met her husband, Robert Lee Childers, who she married in 1959. They lived in Georgetown (KY) for many years before moving to Somerset (KY). She then moved to Frankfort (KY) to be closer to family. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Versailles (KY).
She enjoyed painting, drawing, singing, playing piano and hammered dulcimer, and was also an accomplished seamstress. She loved the Lord and served Him in the choir, as a pianist, and through teaching Sunday School. She made friends everywhere she went and they have often told her children over the years what joy they found in being around her. She was a housewife for many years before working as a realtor in Georgetown (KY), where she excelled.
She is survived by two daughters, Teri and (David) Holland, and Janice Childers; one sister, Marcia and (Dewey) Pepper; two grandchildren, Jessica & (Wayne) Porter, and Christopher (and Jennifer) Holland; three great-grandchildren, Willow Porter, Aiyana Johnson, and Jacob Holland; multiple nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Olive (Cornett) and Ray Parks; husband, Robert Lee Childers, and brother, Ed Parks.
A funeral service will be held at noon, December 13, 2024 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral home.
Visitation for Wilma will be from 11:00 AM, December 13, 2024 at Morris & Hislope Funeral home until after services.
Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
